Guest SaraSeahorse Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 tyres under 18months as far as I recall - checking for receipts! do not do high mileage less than 9000 this year receipts for feb and march last year for rear tyres plus both front tyres replaced October 2004 driving is mostly around town - could it be anything to do with all this blasted speed humps we have got everywhere now?? seatkid Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 I've seen this before.....Its a problem that afflicts some cars, its due to incorrect rear suspension geometry, the car was not welded/assembled correctly or the the trailing arms are made wrong. As there is no service adjustment, there is nothing you can do except sell the car or keep swapping the tyres around..... If its just out of warranty you could try to complain ;) Quote
Guest SaraSeahorse Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 sadly you have confirmed what my trusty mechanic said which was it was nothing he could do ;) it's a P reg so out of warranty and replacing car at moment not an option :D thanks for your reply Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Could be worn trailing arm bushes? excessive wear in these will allow the rear end to missalign! a good alignment specialist will be able to diagnose the problem and put it right, on my XR 4X4 the rear end was way out ;) both rear wheels were pointing toe out :D the garage slotted the trailing arm mounting holes and after realigning the rear wheels to the correct settings they welded it all into position, never suffered from excessive tyre wear or bad handling again :D IIRC your Northampton based? if so try PRO ALIGN down the back of Halfords on the Weedon Road Industrial Estate, they sorted my car ok :D Quote

gaznlou Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 As this post is nearly 4 years old, don't hold your breath on SaraSeahorse answering to soon :angry2: Quote
sparky Paul Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 No, but the trailing arm bushes suggested earlier are a good start. Failing that, I'm afraid you need to get the tracking measured on the back end, and any defect corrected. Possible cause could be suspension damage caused by heavy kerbing. Quote
Shabazmo Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 No, but the trailing arm bushes suggested earlier are a good start. Failing that, I'm afraid you need to get the tracking measured on the back end, and any defect corrected. Possible cause could be suspension damage caused by heavy kerbing. My brother in law had severe inner rear wheel wear when he bought his 2 year old Mk2 galaxy privately. I had 2 new tyres at the rear at 18K miles so we should have guessed that there was a problem. After 3 years and many sets of rear tyres, I used a wheelforce tracking set which showed that the rear tracking was out on the near side. So much so that you could visually see the ofset by looking down the length of the car and comparing it with the other side. Given that there was no damage, I could only assume that it was a factory defect or done by the previous owner. I fixed the problem by using a hydraulic strong arm against each wheel hub and bent the o/s hub to give the correct toe in. The tracking guages was connected as I did this. After 10K miles the new tyres are in great condition. My b i l also said that the car is a lot quieter since the rear tyre scrub was no longer happening. hope this helps. By the way, new hub/wishbone is about Quote
